Shopping Information

Area Shopping Information

Local shoppers are casual yet savvy and look for variety, quality and value. All these elements are available in Thousand Oaks, and judging by the array of options in the region, it is evident that shopping is important to The Conejo.

The Oaks Mall
For those who prefer to shop at one central location, the enclosed, air-conditioned Oaks Shopping Center offers 140 specialty shops, restaurants and major department stores, including Macy’s and JCPenney. The merchants offer a dazzling array of merchandise, including hand-sewn clothing, hand-made jewelry and other unique items from a dozen vendors' carts outside the stores. The Oaks is a destination for the entire family as well as a must-see for visitors. Construction is in the process to add 180,000 square feet of shops, scheduled to be completed in late 2008. Major rennovation includes Nordstroms department store and a movie theater complex.

Janss Marketplace and Vicinity
Another popular shopping center is the newly-renovated Janss Marketplace featuring Sears Roebuck & Company, Mervyns, Aaron Brothers Art & Framing, Marshalls, Linens 'n Things and Toys R Us. A nine-screen Cineplex with convenient parking attracts crowds of moviegoers who can also enjoy a selection of nearby restaurants and fast food shops. Computer and office supply specialty stores—such as Office Depot and Best Buy across the street—are located in the vicinity. Nearby are Pier 1 Imports, Borders Books & Music and Big 5 Sporting Goods.

Promenade at Westlake and Northgate Plaza
The Promenade at Westlake and Northgate Plaza—across Westlake Boulevard from each other at the intersection of Thousand Oaks Boulevard—feature European-styled village greens with Mediterranean architecture, accented with flowers, sculpture, and water features. Chic stores and shops have everything from books to baskets, furniture to bedding, exotic groceries to fine kitchenware. There are many full-service restaurants to please every palate as well as a Mann eight-screen movie complex. Often, there is live entertainment in the Promenade at Westlake outside the Barnes & Noble Bookstore on weekends. Across the street is North Ranch Mall with a supermarket, drugstore, specialty shops and restaurants.

Thousand Oaks Boulevard
Thousand Oaks Boulevard bisects the region from east to west. It is a busy corridor of local stores, restaurants and the world’s largest auto mall that has side-to-side shopping from 14 separate dealers. Down the street are the Evergreen Plaza and Palm Plaza as well as a scattering of other small centers. The Boulevard is moving into the 21st century with redevelopment plans that include the creation of a specific plan, alternative designs for street enhancements, and a parking needs analysis. Planners believe that Thousand Oaks Boulevard will be “the place to be in the new century.

Westlake and Oak Park
On the south side of the freeway on Westlake Boulevard is Westlake Plaza with a selection of men's, women's and children’s clothing, shoe shops, a full-line camera store, restaurants, the Conejo Valley and neighborhood centers have sprung up to provide easy shopping. Among the newer offerings are Westlake Village Marketplace, located just north of the freeway on Lindero Canyon. This project includes Costco, Staples, PetSmart, Albertson’s and Michaels Arts & Crafts. Continuing on Lindero Canyon to the north are North Ranch Gateway center with many retail shops, North Ranch Pavilions Center, and Oak Park Shopping Center with Ralph's Market.

Newbury Park
Additional neighborhood centers with groceries, drug stores and other convenience stores are situated at every major freeway exit and within easy access to new housing developments. New home construction has caused much demand for Home Depot, off the freeway at Wendy Drive along with Target, Staples and other shops and eateries. Several full service garden centers are located throughout the area. Shopping opportunities continue to expand to meet every shopping demand.
